Last week there was a ton of construction in our neighborhood. Bobcats, dump trucks and cement trucks wheeled up and down the streets fixing the sidewalks. This was very exciting for all the young children on the block. Every ten minutes, you hear a "beep, beep, beep," "bang, bang, bang," or a "vroooom." Over the course of the week, we went on several walks down the street to check out all the commotion, first hand. Joshua and Audrey had a blast watching all the hustle and bustle. Joshua made sure to introduce himself to all the construction guys giving them his friendly wave and then coming in a bit closer to say "what r u doin?" Audrey was not bashful either, batting her long eyelashes and smiling for each one of them. By the end of the week, I think Joshua and Audrey were on a first-name basis with the workers.
We also recently attended the Kids Can Too! Club at Sargent's Nursery where the theme was "BIG trucks." They storytime feature was "Dig, Dig, Digging," by Margaret Mayo with truck fruit snacks and chocolate milk as the refreshments. That was some pretty good incentive for all the kiddos to sit still for the storytime. ;) Next they made a truck of their choice from construction paper (Josh made a bobcat) and Audrey made a dump truck (with Mommy's help). Finally, we went outside and watched the workers give demonstrations on how their big trucks work. This was definitely the highlight of the fieldtrip. It was a fun day for all.
And, every where we go lately, Joshua will eagerly exclaim "Look at that BIIGG truck, Mama/Daddy" whenever we see any truck that looks like it could possibly dig or dump something. His excitement also extends into the house downstairs at his Little People table where he plays for hours on end fixing, cleaning, and filling up each of his trucks and tractors at the carwash station. Audrey now stands right beside him all perked up ready to help out in anyway she can.
