First Day of Vacation (Post Entry)

clock December 10, 2005 06:24 by author Terry Aney

Couple funny things today...Sissy called and wanted to talk to Josh. I asked him if you wanted to talk to Sissy and for the first time in history, he turned down a phone...'No!' was his answer. Sissy and I thought it was pretty funny but it would get better. The last couple days, Sissy had Josh call Val on the phone and he had suddenly gotten an obsession with calling Val..."Bal" as he says it. So Sissy said, tell him it is Val, so I asked him if he wanted to talk to Val and of course he yelled yes and came charging for the phone. He paced around the condo in the nude (he just finished a shower) talking to Val (think he started with Sissy at the end). Anyway, to cap off the comedy, I could here Val talking to him and she asked him if he wanted to talk to Sissy. Your response? "Nun!" (Done) as he handed the phone back to me. Classic :)

We went to the pool today too. That was pretty funny. They had a 'fountain pool' where the water randomly sprays up and down. Josh thought that was a riot running through there. I am going to try and get the camcorder tomorrow and catch him in action. I hope I do because it was hilarious. Especially when he would stop directly over a fountain when it wasn't spouting then all of a sudden it would blast up. Another thing that surprised me, he dunked himself about three times (falling when running around in the water), but the weird thing was, when he dunked himself, it wasn't even like he tried to get up. He just sat there under water...Mom said kids do that. They don't really know to try and get up, because the water wasn't even deeper than him (meaning he could have just stood up) but he just stayed under water. Reminder to self...never take my eyes off of Josh in a pool no matter how shallow!

As I mentioned yesterday, his fear of the jets in the tub is pretty funny. He had a couple minor meltdowns because of it tonight, but the way he says No usually is so damn cute (until he says it ten times and become frantic). We ask him if he wants something, and he sits there and 'contemplates' it for a minute and then says 'Noooo!' with the kind of tone that sounds like 'Are you crazy?!' Gonna try and get this on camcorder tomorrow too.

Wish me luck in getting some 'action' shots.

Heading to Orlando for Vacation (Post Entry)

clock December 9, 2005 06:24 by author Terry Aney

Well, we left for vacation today down at our timeshare in Orlando, FL. It was going to turn out to be a very long day. We all slept together in one hotel room. That is always an auspicious start. For some reason, Josh was full of stamina and stayed up in his pack and play singing and talking until at least 10:30 at night. So Mom and I trying to sleep while he was still entertaining himself was just leading up to what kind of day it was going to be. We got up at 8:00AM and got ready to go down to breakfast. We were scheduled to fly out at 1:25PM, so our plan were to have breakfast, play in the pool for a while, then take the 11AM shuttle and arrive two hours ahead of time for a possible hell of a time at the airport. We finished breakfast and Josh and Mom went to the pool as I finished packing our stuff up. We headed to the airport at 11AM, and Josh was already starting to look a little tired (rubbing his eyes and what not). Our plan was to keep him up until 1:25 when we took off and hope he slept the whole flight. When we got to our gate, we were saddened to see that our flight was delayed until 2PM. So we thought it was just going to be a bit tougher battle to keep Josh up, that was all. But then it slipped until 3PM. Now we were wondering if we should have him sleep before the plane or what. We decided to try and keep him up, even though we knew that deep down we would fail. I took Josh on several walks. We would go on the escalator sidewalks...Josh thought he was big sh@& riding those. Saying Hi/Goodbye to everyone going the opposite direction on the sidewalk. Can't count how many times we did that. We also went to an arcade where they had this little space shuttle ride. Josh thought that was pretty amazing too. And with money being one of his newer words, I couldn't resist when he asked for "money??" Josh quickly put both quarters in the slot (which was surprising enough) and climbed into the ride and proceeded to have a ball twisting and rocking about.

Surprisingly enough we kept Josh up the whole time up until 3:15 when we boarded. It was 3:45 by the time we took off and Josh konked out right before we started down the run way. Things were looking up because Mom and I thought he would sleep the whole flight (2hr 45min). Josh made it two hours and then all hell broke loose. I think it was mostly his ears though. I don't know what causes it (on this flight versus others), but this flight was horrible for ear pressure/popping. Mom and my ears were killing us (mine didn't recover for 2 days), so I could only imagine what Josh's were like. All in all, he handled the flight pretty well considering. So we landed at the airport at 7'ish. By the time we were pulling out of the airport in our rental, it was 8:15PM. We drove towards Orange Lake (hitting a Golden Corral on the way) and arrived at our timeshare at 9:30ish. So Josh had had a very long day so far. Mom needed to go get groceries for breakfast, at least for tomorrow, so she went while Josh and I got in the tub. He had a major meltdown getting into the tub. I managed to get him somewhat calmed down, then getting into the tub, but it was a battle. So all this rambling on was mostly for the next two parts.

In the tub, there were jets. Josh liked them for about 5 seconds then he became frozen in terror from them. I didn't really realize how scared he was of them. I would ask him if he wanted them turned on. He would excitedly chirp 'Yeah!', then immediately, get scared and shake his head 'No! No!' It was kind of funny to watch him have this internal conflict, but after seeing that he was really scared, I dropped my entertainment in favor of his comfort ;)

Then as we were getting out of the tub, the resort was delivering the pack and play and high chair. I got them and put it in Josh's room. I started to put up his pack and play...I pulled out the 'mattress' as I was setting up the crib and Josh immediately grabbed his blanket and plopped on the mattress with his naked butt up in the air...'Knee Knee' (night night) and practically fell asleep right there. It was pretty damn cute. I quickly finished getting him ready and Mom arrived home and tucked him into bed.

Growing Vocabulary (Post Entry)

clock December 6, 2005 06:24 by author Terry Aney

Well, since my 'vocab entry', Josh has been learning a new word every day. Supposedly kids his age are learning ten new words every day, but he hasn't quite mastered verbalizing them if he has. I think I can recognize one new word a day. Unfortunately the word Josh learned today wasn't a 'good' one. Wasn't as bad as a swear word, but he walks around saying 'Jesus' when he is surprised or disgusted by something. Mom is trying to convince herself that she walks around saying 'Oh Geez', but deep down she knows just like I do, that he got that from Mom and I saying 'Jesus' about stuff - yikes. Probably, mostly me versus Mom because she doesn't really say Jesus that often (and she never says Geez like she is trying to pretend). Guess it is time to start curbing my 'offensive' language huh?!

Poop on the loose! (Post Entry)

clock December 2, 2005 06:24 by author Terry Aney

Well, Josh had a 'kid classic' today. I was working from home in the morning, but I was down in my office. Josh and Mom were up stairs finishing a shower with Mom. As usual, Mom let Josh run around in the nude to please his inner urges to streak. She was getting ready in the bathroom, and it fell silent for a while. Then all of a sudden Josh came running from his room. "Poop! Poop!" He went 'high stepping' right past Mom and to the toilet with two hands full of poop. He threw the poop in the toilet and proudly flushed the toilet. We haven't even really considered potty training him yet, he just seems too young. But the fact that he pooped, then picked it up and ran it to the toilet...that might be a sign right?! Anyway, Mom and I thought it was pretty funny. Luckily his poop that day resembled rocks more than mashed potatoes, so it wasn't too hard to clean him or the carpet up.

Nightmares and Thomas the Train (Post Entry)

clock December 1, 2005 06:24 by author Terry Aney

After putting Josh to bed today he woke up balling. This is very irregular for him so I immediately popped out of bed and rushed into the darkness of his room. He was standing there arms out waiting for someone to grab him. Josh had been under the weather for the last couple days, so it wasn't a complete surprise that he woke up. But I think he was mostly having a nightmare versus sick because I just sat with him in his chair rubbing his back and he fell back to sleep within about five minutes or so. But I loved this moment of comforting him and him snuggling up in my arms that I sat there for another forty minutes or so stroking his back as he slept. Didn't matter that it was three in the morning, I just wanted to be with him since Mom gets to do all the comforting the other parts of the day.

Josh, Mom and I made one of our common trips to the mall where we just walked around and let Josh wander and play. We usually make a lap or two at the Apache Mall (making Josh say hi to everyone to cheer them up), then stop at the little play area where they have those stupid kid rides where a car just moves back and forth or something. Josh loves them of course, even without paying for them. Wonder how long that will last?! Anyway, after that we concluded with some time at Barnes and Noble (as usual) to let him play with their Thomas the Train set. He was playing there with another little boy whose Mom was sitting right there too, watching them. All of a sudden, Josh lets a huge fart rip. He was in full concentration during the fart, then soon as it was over, he looked up at everyone around and started dying laughing. He is such a little clown. Josh is always making everyone, especially Mom and I, laugh.
